PROVIDERS | #LeaveNoOneBehind

DSActive is designed to provide as many opportunities for people with Downs Syndrome to be active and healthy. It was created in response to the awareness of the sedentary lifestyles of many children and adults with Down's Syndrome.
DSActive supports and works in partnership with sports clubs and activity providers to run sessions for people with Downs Syndrome. In Greenwich there are 2 DSActive sessions, The Charlton Upbeats and Shooters Hill Tennis Club.
The DSActive team have recently developed a CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) accredited course for those who work in the Leisure and Fitness Industry. This course will teach professionals, like yourself, how to better support people with Down's Syndrome to use their facilities. Their research shows that 54% of those who have Downs Syndrome only use their local leisure centre less than 5 times a year, and a lot of this is to do with the accessibility of the centre and the lack of knowledge of the condition amongst the staff.
The DSActive Leisure and Fitness Workshop is taking place on Friday 5th April 2019, 11am - 2pm at the Down's Syndrome Association, Langdon Down Centre, 2a Langdon Park, Teddington, TW11 9PS.
Cost: £30 for CIMSPA members or £35 for non-CIMSPA members.
